So many times I have wondered how a town got its name, this book answered my questions. I felt it was very informative.
I travel a lot across the USA and always pass a town with a strange name. This book answers a lot of my questions.
Filled with grammatical errors, punctuation errors, and inanities. I LOVE this kind of book, and I have a whole shelf full of place name references. I had to put this book down after the first 15 pages or so, because it was just too painful to read. I understand that the author meant well, and obviously enjoyed his subject, but this book is yet more evidence that not everyone should be a published author.
This is a pretty good book. Easy to read in one afternoon or while traveling down the road in the passenger seat.
And there are so many curiously named cities that were completely ignored. So often I felt that there was more to the story. In fact, in a couple of instances I KNEW there was more to the story. Learning that yet another town was named after a person got to be boring after awhile. I got the impression that very little actual research was done.
